Catheter-based renal denervation for treatment-resistant hypertension.

Description of Medical Condition

Despite adherence to multiple anti-hypertensive medications, a subset of patients with hypertension (HTN) will continue to experience elevated, uncontrolled blood pressure.

This condition is termed treatment resistant hypertension (rHTN), and typically describes uncontrolled, elevated blood pressure, despite treatment with 3+ anti-hypertensive medications (including a diuretic). Treatment resistant hypertension is also used to describe patients whose BP is controlled but require ≥4 antihypertensive medications.
