| Stage 2 - Assessment | Completed |
| Stage 3 - Formulation of Advice to the Minister | This assessment was considered by the MSAC at the 15 November 2006 meeting. Breast MRI, when combined with mammography, is safe and effective in the diagnosis of breast cancer in asymptomatic women at high risk, when used as part of an organised surveillance program. Evidence suggests that breast MRI in combination with mammography may be cost-effective when compared with mammography alone in high risk women aged less than 50 years. MSAC recommends interim public funding for breast MRI in the diagnosis of breast cancer in asymptomatic women with a high risk of developing breast cancer when used as part of an organised surveillance program. Evidence should be reviewed in not less than 3 years. |
| Stage 4 - Decision | Endorsed by the Minister for Health and Ageing on 5 February 2007 |
| Stage 5 - Implementation | Implemented |
