MSAC assessed the evidence for the use of fetal fibronectin testing in women who are at high risk of preterm labour to predict their risk of preterm delivery and the evidence pertaining to the use of fetal fibronectin testing for predicting preterm labour in women who:

Present with symptoms suggestive of preterm labour;
Singleton or twin gestation;
From 24 to 33 weeks 6 days gestation;
With intact amniotic membranes; and
Cervical dilation <3cm;

and determined that the test is safe but effectiveness has not been demonstrated.

MSAC does not support public funding for this test at this time.
