Stage 3 - Formulation of Advice to the MinisterThis assessment was considered by the MSAC at the 21 August 2002 meeting.

The MSAC recommended that, on the strength of the evidence pertaining to antenatal screening for heritable thrombophilia, public funding should not be supportedfor systematic screening of all pregnant women. Since there is currently insufficient evidence pertaining to antenatal screening for heritable thrombophilia in high risk obstetric groups, the MSAC recommended that public funding should not be supported at this time for this procedure. However, this recommendation should be reviewed in two years time.
