Draft MSAC Guidelines Summary Available for Comment

The Department is seeking to engage with stakeholders regarding draft guidelines to support the Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) assessment processes. Background to the MSAC processes is provided in the form of an Overview of the New Arrangements for Listing on the Medicare Benefits Schedule.

The guidelines are presented in two parts:
· Overview of Guidelines for the Processes Supporting the Medical Services Advisory Committee - this document summarises the guidelines for MSAC's evidence appraisal process.
Guidelines for Preparing Assessment Reports for the Medical Services Advisory Committee - this is a comprehensive paper that provides detailed information and guidelines for those who wish to compile the evidence for the Evaluation Sub-Committee (ESC) Assessment Report themselves.
The second document is a draft version of the full MSAC guidelines and will be released shortly.
A deadline for comment on both guideline documents will be set once the draft version of the full guidelines is released. Any comments can be forwarded to hta@health.gov.au.
If you have any queries regarding these documents or would like to request a meeting, please contact the Health Technology Assessment hotline on (02) 6289 7550.
