Biography Dr Christine Tippett
Dr Christine Tippett is the immediate past President of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), Director of Maternal–Fetal Medicine, Monash Medical Centre Southern Health and Honorary Senior Lecturer, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Monash University. Dr Tippett has been an effective and passionate advocate for women during her tenure as RANZCOG President. She has achieved a lot in difficult policy areas such as appropriate assessment of overseas trained doctors in obstetrics and gynaecology; abortion law reform in Victoria; and safe pregnancy care for rural and remote women in Australia and New Zealand. As head of Maternal Fetal Medicine, she is responsible for some of the most high–risk pregnancies in Victoria, and has watched countless babies fight hard for their place in the world. Her stock in trade is caring for mothers with medical illnesses such as expectant mothers with kidney disease, diabetes and cardiac disease, all of whom need vigilant monitoring and often–complex medical intervention. Dr Tippett has been on a large number of Boards and Committees (both National and International) and is currently a member of the Medibank Private Health Advisory Panel, the Australian and New Zealand Stillbirth Alliance, the Mortality and Morbidity Stillbirth Committee, Chairman of the Joint Standing Committee of Overseas Trained Specialists and Chairman of the Fellowship Review Committee RANZCOG. Dr Tippett has authored many publications and has lectured and presented papers to medical conferences all over the world. In 1984, Dr Tippett was awarded the F J Browne Medal for outstanding performance in RANZCOG membership exams.
