Dr Simon Towler
On 1 July 2011, Dr Simon Towler was nominated as the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council nominee on MSAC. Dr Towler was appointed to the position of Western Australia’s Chief Medical Officer in 2005. Dr Towler’s past roles include being President of the Australian Medical Association (Western Australia Branch), and he brings with him a broad range of experience and training in the critical care field. Dr Towler is a member of the Western Australian State Health Executive Forum and a senior clinician who continues to practise part time as an Intensivist in the Intensive Care Units of Royal Perth Hospital, St John of God’s Hospital (Subiaco) and the Mount Hospital. He is a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM), the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) and the Australian Medical Association (AMA). Dr Towler has responsibility for the research portfolio in the Western Australia Department of Health and is an enthusiastic supporter of the ongoing development of the role of the National Institute of Clinical Studies within the NHMRC. Dr Towler is a member of the National Health and Medical Research Council.
