Service or technology in this application

Catheter-based cardiac ablation is a procedure to treat an abnormal heart rhythm without open surgery. Thin, flexible tubes called catheters are inserted into a blood vessel in the groin and guided to the heart. Special catheters first map the heart to find the tissue causing the abnormal rhythm. Another catheter then uses targeted heat, cold or short electrical pulses to destroy this tissue and help restore a normal heartbeat. A specialist team performs the procedure.

Medical condition this application addresses

Cardiac arrhythmias are abnormal heart rhythms caused by a problem with the heart's electrical system. The heart may beat too fast, too slowly or unevenly. These rhythms can affect a person's quality of life and, in some cases, cause serious health problems or death. They may happen briefly, last for longer periods or become permanent. They are grouped by whether they begin in the heart's upper chambers or lower chambers.
